Jesus: My Everything
May 20, 2008
Jesus is awesome.
Do you ever just stop and think about that? I mean, in a really down-to-earth way, Jesus is awesome!
Lately I’ve felt closer in my walk with God. Maybe it’s because of the stuff that’s been happening in my life right about now, or maybe it’s because Jesus has been opening my eyes some more. Either way, I’ve been thinking about what Jesus does for me.
He forgives my sins. He gives me peace. He shows me what I need to do. He answers my prayers. He is always way ahead of me. He loves me like He loves no one else. He thinks I am beautiful. :) He takes care of my family. He keeps me safe. He understands all my struggles. He is my closest friend. He keeps my secrets! He loves it when I sing to Him (even though it’s not always great-sounding)! He makes me happy. He comforts me when I am hurt. He gives me friends.
As a Christian, when you really think about it, Jesus is your everything. Of course, we all try to depend on ourselves and anything else we can think of, but when you get to the bottom of it, it’s Jesus you’re depending on.
Right now, I am reading Matthew, and I am constantly reminded of things I have learned about Christ elsewhere. Guess what? I’m loving it! Reading John Piper’s book A Godward Life Book 2 every day is great. God has really gifted that man with a way of seeing the lesson behind every scripture.
I guess this post is kind of random. It wanders around with whatever pops into my head, but what I’m trying to get a is how awesome Jesus is.
Those who read this blog must by now know that my family is moving to the Madera Ranchos. My dad is a pastor and we are going there for a year to shepherd a new church.
Now that it’s definite, it’s been pretty tough for me to think about leaving my friends and school and stuff. Getting used to the fact that God will work out all of our problems has been so helpful, and just knowing that He will guide us and take care of us no matter what. Also, finding that He will be able to take the place of all the friends I leave behind has been helpful. John Piper said, in his book, something about how God is always a step ahead of us, already untying the knots we encounter. That has really been a touching thought for me.
I guess I’ll close now. . . .
