Thus It Begins. . .
January 21, 2008
And just that that *snaps,* we’re almost a month into 2008!
Time flies! I guess the first time I really grasped that was, oh, a couple years ago when I was in 5th or 6th grade. . This school year has just slipped away. But I don’t regret it. I had done so much since I started school, and I feel like I have grown a ton. (Not size-wise, mind you.)
Well, since the start of this year, I’ve done what feels like alot.
I’m going to be in this year’s ACSI spelling bee. My, the list is daunting! I thought I had a pretty advanced vocabulary for my age, but I guess I was wrong – I don’t know what half of the words on that list mean. The biggest word was “otorhinolaryngoligist,” (and I’m pretty sure it’s spelled correctly) which just means and ear, nose, and throat doctor.
I wrote my speech for the speech meet (also an ACSI thing, I think). It’s about Proverbs 31:30, which I can recite by heart I’ve said it so many times! “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised .” It’s about two and a half minutes long, as a point of interest. I think I’ll post it in my “Of the Month” post.
My best friend turned 14 on the 14th, which was exciting!
I went to a winter formal that had dancing over this weekend. That was so much fun! I’m not much of a dancer – you can ask anybody, but I enjoyed it! For the three weeks leading up to the event, this one family was giving mini swing lessons, which I went to. It took an excruciatingly long time, but I got down the basic steps. I’m very proud of myself! :P
In the process, I also acquired a favorite song of sorts – it’s this swing song about how this guy loves a rainy night. I don’t know why, but I love it! I feel like crying when I hear it. . .
I have the day off of school because it’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Thank God for that man! :P
In this month, I have read two good books, both by Eoin Colfer, whose writing I have really enjoyed. They were as follows: The Supernaturalist and Artemis Fowl. He is very talented.
Today, I made myself a Flickr account, which you can view here. Flickr is a nifty tool, plus it’s just fun! :)
